How to ace your Massive job application

a recruiter’s top 4 tips

Working as a recruiter at Massive, I meet many passionate people interested in joining our studio almost daily, which is awesome! However, this also means that we get a lot of applications and portfolios sent to us.

In this article, I share my 4 top tips on how to improve your chances of acing your Massive application:

1. Find your specialization

Nobody is an expert in everything, so make sure you know what you want to specialize in when you send in your application. Being a generalist is fine, but at Massive, we are not looking for an animator that also does character art.

We are aware that can be difficult to know exactly in which direction you want your next career step to go, but take a moment to think about what you’re looking for. In the end, it will help you  – and us! – to understand what you actually want to do.

2. tailor your application and portfolio

After you have decided which specific position at Massive you want to apply for, tailor your application and portfolio for it! So, if you are applying for a role as a Character Artist, make sure that you show your amazing skills in that particular area in your application and portfolio.

3. make it easy

It’s a harsh truth, but if your application or portfolio is not easily accessible or readable, chances are we’ll lose interest pretty quickly. Make it easy for us!

If you have a portfolio, we appreciate short website passwords and clickable contact details. Also, don’t make things difficult by “hiding” your work in a maze-like website.

A tip is to ask your friends and family to test how easy it is to access and view your application.

4. internet is your friend

There’s nothing more disheartening for us recruiters than potential hires who have no clue whatsoever what Massive is or does.

Looking us up online only takes a couple of minutes. We don’t expect you to be an expert in who we are or what we do, but we do appreciate it if you at least have a clue about which projects we’re working on!

A plus might also be to try out one of our games or services, like Tom Clancy’s The Division or Uplay.
